2000 TR4 transmission shifting hard when cold

Just picked up a 2000 TR4 SR5 4x4 with 200,000 miles. Truck runs great but when I start it in the morning and put it in drive it goes in hard. Also when it shifts it shifts hard. When I say shift hard, I'm not talking about winding out to a higher rpm before it shifts. After about a mile it goes back to shifting normal and continues all day. Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem and if it's something I need to be concerned with.

When the truck is cold the idle is high so it may shift a little harder but nothing terrible. I think mine shifts into gear a little firmer but when driving it shifts fine even while cold.

You just picked it up and it has 200K... How does the fluid look? Might be time for a change.

This morning I started it up and let it run for a few minutes before taking off and it went into gear and shifted normal.

I also had one of those OH SH!T moments when I started looking under the front of the truck today to see how the bumper was mounted on because it has a dent and I want to replace it. I thought I looked the truck over real good before I bought it but I guess I didn't look good enough.

When I went to test drive it I was looking more for paint work and ignored the frame. Nothing has been painted on the truck that I can see. All factory stickers are in place, no overspray but this thing took a pretty good hit on the lower side of the front end. I still think I got a pretty good deal so it's not like I'm freaking out over it. The part that's bent is the cross member that the front bumper is mounted to. Also looks like the driver's side area where the cross member bolts on to the end of the frame is bent a little. Do you think this would be very hard to fix? Also, anyone know where the best place is to buy a factory style bumber? I don't do much trail riding so an ARB would be a wast of money for me.

tranny mount bar 1996 automatic

Can anyone tell me is there a bar from frame rail to rail that the tranny rests on top of. If so anyone got a pic of it .I think mines gone. 1996 automatic tranny Sr5.

I just picked up a 2000 SR5 the other day and am having a similar issue as the original poster. I was wondering if you eventually found a solution other than letting it warm up in the morning.

Just let it warm up, That is what you should do anyways. In the past ten years and 400,000 miles I have always let it warm up and it hasnt let me down yet!
