My pic is of a 1975 Denver Edition Bronco, She is an A-list vehicle for all to marvel and admire. I am also the proud owner of a 1996 SR5 4runner 3.4 w/5spd and 4wd and the reason I am in this forum.

we know what ya mean-and I was not making fun of the Bronco-that would sell well here. And I like those early Broncos as seen in "The Eiger Sanction"-a terrible Clint Eastwood film with good climbing scenes and desert Bronco driving. But I digress....

okay on the 96 by now you would have had like minimum 2 timing belt changes and about ready for a 3rd.(mechanics-chime in-you know what you are talking about)

Routine maintenance-see what the dealer recommends for 200K servicing and then decide from there what you have and have not kept up with. Time to check all the fluids and belts and brakes and exhaust and just think of every major system.

Personally I like the dealership dudes as they always spot stuff that I would not have noticed on my own-but that's me. Are they cheap-heck no... but they wash my ride and generally make suggestions that I can follow up with other service providers.

I agree with Ron on the dealership. It goes a long way to make a good rapport with the dealership guys. The Toyota dealership I worked at was a small dealership and many service writers knew customers on a first name basis and never tried to rip anyone off. On big jobs, Ill take my truck to the dealership over the independent guys any day.

For the service, I would probably look at getting the 100k mile service, or at least completing some of the tasks included in that service on your own. The timing belt is supposed to be done at 90,000 miles so yours should have been done twice by now, but you got a while before the third time.

The 3.4L (assuming thats what you have) is a non-interference motor so if you can't get around to the timing belt, you will only be out the towing bill. Good luck and its nice to see another runner hit 200,000 miles.
