2001 280k transmission failing- questions!

Hey people,

My dearly beloved '01 SR5 4x4 w 280k is finally making terrible torque converter sounds (I think). Still drives, fluid is clear and fairly fresh- just OLD. Had been making a very quiet whine for a long time and on Friday - boom- the louder whine/sound began and I think I could detect subtle differences in shifting. I parked it at home and have not driven since.

Question- are there any rebuilders you KNOW can or DO use Toyota parts and do a GREAT job? I would even consider having the vehicle towed to a shop like there is a Toyota specialist somewhere in Orange County, CA. I reside a few hours from Los Angeles and just want to do my BEST to preserve the OEM quality that has taken me through thousands of miles of incredible off road exploration and daily driving.

Id try Yotamasters. They've had a pretty good reputation for a while. I dont know if they do transmission rebuilds. But might point you in the right direction.
They're in Corona

Marlin crawler might be a second spot to try too. Much further away up north though

I would consider Yota1 Performance in Riverbank, CA (Central Valley) first. Timmy and Sean vouch for them too, and have videos to back it up. If it makes you feel any better, I have had a pronounced TC/Transmission howl/growl/whine for 3+ years/30k+ miles. Push it.
