2001 4runner front diff

Front diff went out on the 4runner, my problem is i cant find what gear ratio it is. looks like there are 3 different ratios available. i guess it supposed to be stamped on the diff but cant find it? Any ideas as how to determine what ratio i have w/o pulling it out? Any help would be appreciated.

Three options I can think of(correct me if im wrong).
1. You can call the dealer with your vin and they can tell you.
2. See if there is a tag on your rear end.. If there is it should be the same ratio as your front.
3. Theres an old trick about spinning the tire and counting the teeth. Not sure how that goes...

I would just call the dealer.....

i did call the dealer with the vin and they told me it is stamped on the diff. I could not find it as i'm guessing it is on the top where i cant see it. Will look at the rear. Thanks again

whats the last 8 of your vin and the year?? I will get you the ratio..

It is a..........4.10

The guy that typically checks them for me is not in, therefor before you 100% buy anything I would double check behind me. But, the information I got from the guys in parts is that is indeed a 4.10...You have the sport package right?
 
yes, SR5 v6 3.4 auto

thank you for your help. I could always pull it and check on top, but seems like alot of work and you would think that there would be some way to know what the heck it is before tearing into this project.... now to find one here is wisconsin. sucks with no 4 wheel drive up here

A340F denotes the type of transmission in your rig. The "F" is the tail stock length denoting 4wd model with a xfer case .

Finding gear ratio's from documentation is a real pain with these trucks as I have looked quite a bit for a new diff and never got/found a definitive answer.

If you can, lift up the back end so 1 wheel is off the ground, rotate the tire 1 complete revolution and count the number of times the drive shaft rotates.

It will be tricky to determine if the drive shaft has turned 4.1 or 4.3 times but if you can determine with any accuracy, this should give you the actual ratio.
A 4.25 ratio should give you exactly 4 1/4 turns on the drive shaft so slightly over 4 1/4 turns will probably be a 4:30 ratio.

i will keep that in mind, the logistics is what i'd be worried about. I found one in Green Bay and was going to run up and get that tonight. Only an hour away. Thanks for the offer though. BTW when they say with ADD or W/O ADD what does that mean???? Anybody? Sorry not really a motor head guy.
