2001 4Runner front end click/gear slap noise

When changing direction from Drive to Reverse or Visa Versa my intial application of brakes produces a loud click or what sounds like a gear slap in the front end. After the intial application it's never heard again and I have no abnormal noises when braking.
Has anyone else experienced this?

Is it 4X4? If so then it's probably your ADD (Automatic Disconnecting Differential) disconnecting. The ADD is activated when there is no vacuum. In your case, the engine being off. Then once you start it, it is stuck activated until you start rolling then it will loosen up and click.
