2001 4runner transmission replacement

Hello, a rookie here looking for advice, please. I have a 2001 4runner with 133k miles. My transmission is shot and needs to be replaced. I'm going to go with a used one and see how it goes... When dealing with vendors/salvage yards/etc over the phone and online, any tips on what I need to know and pass along? I know the obvious that its from a 2001 SR5 3.4 liter 4WD with an automatic transmission and overdrive. But anything else I need to know and have them verify to confirm what they may have is a "match" for my 4runner?

No, I think you pretty much have it down. 01 and 02 Runners are pretty easy as they only offered 1 engine and 1 transmission and the choice of 2wd or 4wd, so pretty limited variances between trucks. I would focus my search on the lowest mileage 01 or 02 I could find. Out of curiosity what happened to the original, shred the O/D gear by an chance?

Hopefully you were doing burnouts, dropping it into Drive from high revs Park, forgot to refill the transmission after draining it, or something not related to the design & engineering of the transmission. I'm not diggin' the few posts about people with '01 & '02s and transmission issues.

It kinda makes me feel worried about my tranny too, after reading the recent posts about tranny failures. I hope mines will live until 300k or more!

Just heard from my tech this afternoon. After suffering through a sticky TC solenoid (it only manifested itself a day ago with hard shifts), he just pulled the pan intending to replace it and found chunks of the TC in the pan. $167k miles and now need a new tranny.
