Hello guys,
I'm new here but could really use some advice... I recently drove my 2001 4runner Ltd (4wd) 650miles to Albuquerque, NM. (It currently has 76k miles on it by the way)
When I was coming up over the pass (in the mtns), it was snowing so I put it in 4wd. I noticed when I was braking that there was a shake going on, but I was on a fairly steep downward incline and didnt think much of it. Yesterday when I hopped out if my car while it was running I heard a funny noise coming from under the good- it sounded like a loose belt perhaps. Then today it felt as though my truck had less acceleration than it usually does and when I was able to get her up to 70-75mph the car started to shake somewhat- it felt like I was going over lines in the road. After a few minutes it stopped however and has yet to return.
I had a 1999 VW Passat blow a it's timing belt in me and don't want to relive a nightmare like that ever again! But I also know nothing about cars and am a long way from home so I'm trying to educate myself before I get taken advantage if! Any help would be much appreciated and if anyone lives in ABQ and would like to help me out I would be forever grateful!!!
Edit: I forgot something... this might be completely unrelated but yesterday I got in my car, turned the key to "on" but sat there for a little while (checking email on my blasted iPhone) before starting it up. When I went to start the car it just started clicking like it would when your battery is dead. I turned the key back to off... sat there stunned for a second... then tried again-- it struggled a bit but started up. I just put a new battery in not too long ago and find it to be an awfully odd coincidence that all of this is occuring at the same time... but then again I know absolutely nothing about cars so what I think doesn't matter!
