2001 Limited 4x4 transmission questions

Hi Guys

I have a 2001 4runner limited 4x4 and my Transmission is going for the second time and will need to be replaced. http://audiokarma.org/forums/images/smilies/wtf.gif
I know when i had to replace the original transmission that it was almost impossible to find a used one for it due to he fact that it was an electronic one and not a mechanical one or something like that. What is was wondering was

1. Is there a difference between sr5 and limited transmissions in the 2001-2002 range?

2. Is it common for 4runners 2001-2002 to blow thier transmissions?

3. If there is a difference then which one does mine take and what can i say to a salvage yard or parts dealer to see if the used one they have will work in mine?

Any help would be much aprecited as this is the car my wife was using and now she wants it fixed asap

1. There shouldn't be any difference at all with the '01/'02s AFAIK.
2. Not common, especially since you've gone through 2 now. Regular services too?
3. Your 4runner has multi-mode 4x4 (as well as all '01/02 4x4s) which I believe have a slightly variated tranny from the other years (I know the filter looks different than my '97's). I'm pretty sure you need to get one from '01 or '02.

Thanks for the info I found out that its the planetary overdrive gear that is going in my tranny, so if i disable overdrive the car runs fine so the wife is appeased for now but i do need to find a trany for it in the near future. I did find out that the tranny i need is an A340F and it has to be from a 2001 or 2002. If anyone knows a good search engine for car parts or a transmission search engine please let me know.

How long ago did you replace your last transmission?

I replaced it about 2 years ago. The tourq converter went on the last one
