2001 SR5 Miles per gallon

I have had my 4Runner for almost a month and now I have enough miles to get a good average for miles per gallon. After about 2K miles, I am averaging 18.72 miles per gallon. That is mostly city driving with some Highway mixed in. The truck has almost 200K on it and it is in very good condition. From what I read, this is about average for the year of this vehicle? What kind of mileage is everyone else getting?

How do you guys get that kind of mileage? 55 on the highway. I've owned my 98 3.4 auto with 107,000 on it since december and never get those kind of numbers.

I've changed plugs and wires. Airbox mod with the truflo filter and cleaned the MAF and throttle body. Also done all the fluids to synthetic too. I have a 3 inch lift with 265/75 on. I usually get 16 on the interstate running 75. Just seems like it doesnt have enough power to pull intself any faster with shifting down all the time.
 
I haven't bothered doing the numbers for the mileage but I am getting about 315-330 miles to a tank in my 01 SR5. 265/75 BF AT with no lift. We will see when I put a 3inch lift on it. Combination of highway/city and even driving in the mountians it doesn't tend to drop much. Just have to keep that momemtum going! I tend to not be a lead foot when accelerating so that helps the most. Proper tire inflation I have about 90K with no engine mods.

Just came back from vacation and on the HWY I got 24.9 MPG . I also don't speed , that is averaging about 60 MPH ( 105 KPH ) . Truck is 3.4 L with auto and aprox. 140,000 miles . I did change plugs before the trip . Stock Toyota air box AND filter . No after market engine stuff.

My pre-plug around town mileage is around 21 MPG.

With my 2000 SR5 V6 5speed i was getting up to 23 mpg with ethanol free gas. Since then i have lifted it 3 inches, still on 265/70/16 but VT has done away with ethanol free gas and i am now getting 19mpg mixed highway/city with AC
 
2001 Gas Mileage

The window sticker for my 2001 4runner 4x4 was:
19 normal driving and 21 highway

If you're getting ~19 with city driving (in the summer) you're doing pretty good.

With 285/75/r16 tires (~33 inches), a ~3" lift, a 1.5" body lift and a basket rack on top of my truck i get around 15 mpg in the summer (I live in crisp/cool Phoenix Arizona so my A/C is always running) with mostly highway driving.

These trucks were never on the cutting edge of fuel economy, still aren't... unless you have an 4 banger... and the power in those was lacking.
 
I figured it out what i got this weekend. I went to Sturgis for the weekend and pulled the streetbike out on the trailer. Had the runner loaded up with food coolers and the such camping stuff. I drove with overdrive off and set the cruise at 68 or so. I averaged 16.5 mpg!!! I almost got better mileage loaded down with the o/d off than driving 75 in overdrive!!! crazy

Doesn't sound to crazy. I would get better miles and it would accelerate better when I had a full bed or my motorcycle in the bed of my old Taco. I know there is some reason behind but hell is I know it!

Slow down to 60-65mph. You will see an increase.

I have the same setup with Duratracs and get around 17.5 or so.
 
Ive got a stock 01 sr5, I drive on the easy side but was still pleasantly surprised getting 20-21mpg with a mix of highway and city. Ive gotten as much as 23-24 on highway trips if it was just me, last trip was loaded down, bike rack, thule cargo roof box, camping gear stuffed in the back, 4 passengers and driving in 95 deg heat with the ac running and i still averaged about 19.5 mpg. I can't complain, oh and i have approx 125k. i'll get on average about 350 miles per tank.
 
When I first got my 4Runner i could only go about 280 on a tank...then I could somehow get about 320 a tank...then I changed my plugs etc and it stayed the same....just got larger tires and on the hwy I was getting 18mph..but now somehow I have only used half a tank and only gone 124 miles! :cry2:
 
2002 SR5 V6 averaging 18.5 mpg in mixed highway and city driving--includes a lot of flooring it to merge onto various ramps and then stop/go in the city. 147k miles. Oh yeah, A/C is cranked, too. I'm :bluejump:
 
I got a 2000 SR5 4x4 V6 sport, no engine mods, no lift with stock 16'' Tacoma wheels on Sailun 265/70 TerraMax tires. I'm averaging 276miles on a full tank...city driving, goodness mine definitely has something wrong with it comparing to other numbers that you all have! #250kClub

2001 SR5 4WD, all stock, 182k miles. Around town running about I get 16-17mpg, long road trips with freeway driving, mixing in some up and down hills, I get about 21. I drive pretty sensibly, usually around 70 to 75 on the freeway. I pretty sure the mpg would be better if I cruise at 65.
 
2001 SR5 4x4 stock wheels

340-360 on a full tank highway..much less than that short distance, 280'ish.

So 16-20 MPG (usual fill is about 17 Gallons)
