2001 sr5 not getting fuel

Last night my son shows up at 1230 and says his runner died on the side of the road. Just quit like it ran outta gas.

So far I have checked all fuses and removed the fuel filter. Everything I have read said that when you turn the key you should get fuel. We did not. I had him crank it and fuel came out of the line no problem. Fuel pump seems to be working.
Checked the fuel filter. Noticed the bolt was missing from the bracket, sprayed it with PB Blaster, let it sit a min and it came right off. Blew through it, poured some gas through I...doesn't seem clogged. Going to replace it anyways...

I'll be headed into town tomorrow. Anything I need to pick up? Gonna check the rail after I put the new filter on...

Well, when you're engine isn't running it's either no fuel or no spark. Sounds like you're getting fuel so I wonder if the ignition system is working correctly. How one checks the ignition system on our rigs, I don't know but I'm sure somebody with more knowledge will chime in at some point.

This is probably a serious long shot but I'm wondering if the timing belt broke.

Can you get KOEO to at least show what the fuel gauge is reading?

Woke up this morning and figured easiest thing to do would be to peek that timing belt. It was snapped!

I bought a timing belt kit not too long ago. Time to put that sucka in!

Putting this here for future readers...

I don't know what you were reading but as you found out the pump is only on when cranking or the engine is running. Turning the key part way won't do anything.

Should definitely do the timing belt + water pump on my Runner, I've had 0 maintenance history with it.

Update:
Timing belt install went reasonably well.
Before TB I had CEL for evap canister or something...can't remember, after new TB and driving 325 miles, no more CEL and went from 12mpg to 18mpg!
