I bought a SRD5 4x4 Automatic a week and half ago. Clean title, Drives great and a strong runner even with 190K on the motor. It was used as a commute vehicle from San Jose to SF thus the high miles. Transmission was replaced a couple of months ago by the previous owners. A couple who owned it for ten plus years. All electronics work, and only a couple of nicks in the windshield. Clean truck...Brakes, belts, fluids, ect have been kept up.
Alright here's the problem.....
I tested the Four Wheel drive on the day of the test drive and it worked. No issues. Went to put it in 4wd drive yesterday and the truck flashed the 4x4 status on the dash and would not go. So I pulled out the manual and read a few tips about going into 4wd. I backed up about six feet and then put it back in drive and pupped over. It also takes a bit to return it back to 2wd.
Any hints on the issue? Transfer case Going out? No Grinding or anything like that, and I can hear the servo or switch attempting to work.
CA and AZ 4Runner....No rust or anything like that. 4wd has been used to go up to Tahoe and Big Bear but other than that I don't know the usage.
