2002 4Runner 4 wheel drive engaging or not?

My wife has a 2002 4 runner. i clicked the 4wd button yesterday and the lighted signal for the 4wd never stopped blinking. usually it blinks for 30 seconds and then turns green to acknowledge it is engaged.

now it is blinking non stop and i believe it's still in 2 wd drive.

any suggestions/remedies?

if it is stuck in 4x4. If its in 2wd, then you're lucky. there are two switches that you can replace. I had mine stuck in 4x and this fixed it

Take it and get it checked ASAP. Mine was stuck in 4wd without me knowing it - the 4wd indicator light did not work. I drove it several hundred miles, before it started jerking, stalling, etc..... Bottom-line, I had to replace the ECU and actuator assembly as well as the transfer case, to the tune of $3100. Had I known it was stuck in 4wd earlier, it would not have been near that much to fix the problem.

yeah, i think i am going to take it in to figure out what's wrong. then decide on what to do from there.

it has 143K and has been an absolutely great truck for us....would highly recommend to anyone

I have a 138K miles on mine and this is the first time anything has ever gone wrong with it. It runs like a top now, and I am ready to hit the trails again.
