2002 4runner Navigation....any suggestions?

hello everyone.
I Just picked up an '02 4runner. I want to install an "in-dash" navigation system. Is there any suggestions. I do want it to look as clean and "factory" finish as much as possible.

I found one website, http://www.oemvalue.com/toyota.htm anyone ever heard of them? They havent written me back as of yet. I've seen only one person install an OEM navigation from this company. here is how it looks: http://www.geocities.com/cnahau/navinstall.html

Another one i was thinking about is the pioneer AVIC-D3, http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/p....html?compName=PNA_V3_ProductDetailsComponent .

I would like to be able to connect my Ipod through an auxiliary in the back, and have it just sit in the glovebox (hidden)

Is oem not worth it? is it better or worse?

Am i asking for too much?

thanks, any advice is greatly appreciated

I can offer that I have a replacement CD stereo for my current 97 Runner from Pioneer. It is a superior fit and very high quality sound. I picked it up at Auto Radio and Stereo on Arden in Sacramento CA. Not cheap but high quality.

Why don't you do what I did and put a Carputer in. Put a laptop in the back of the seat that you found off ebay or something. Take the screen off...buy a touch screen and mount it to the front. It looks pretty clean, and then even have motorized screens. That way you have a touch screen GPS, Internet, Music, Video, Phone Controls, XM controls, and a whole lot more. Go to MP3car.com to check it out. The best part is I paid total of about $600 which is way less and you get so much more.

Thanks for the replys. Can you post pictures of your finished product. I guess this can go for anyone who replys to this as well.

thanks for the tips!!

Many people on here have gone with the ones from OEMVALUE, supposedly they are helpful and the best deal if you want one new.

I have the pioneer avic-n2 and i like it but would rather have the avic-n3 because the ipod interface is much better on the n3. my friend has the avic-z1 and that one is awesome. they came out with the z2 which just has better nav qualities.

the z1 is a double din and would be better than the d3 especially if you are wanting to connect your ipod. if you want to spend a little less id go with the n3 and just get a pocket to fill the bottom din. i like the single din cause when the screen is open it hides the hidious green ac panel which is good because i have indigo gauges that are blue on my dash.

i'll post pictures when i get home.

i'd definitely get a pioneer nav system. just my opinion.

I have the OEM value NAV.. Best purchase ever!

Did you install it yourself?

can you, or do you have an ipod connected to it?

I would prefer if it comes w/ some auxilliary in the back, so i can hide the ipod. I dont want to see cables everywhere.

Ive written OEM value, but they havent written me back.

the d3 is double din. So it would basically fit the same as my current stock stereo................wouldnt it?

yes. the d3 is a double din and would fit right where your stock stereo does now. i guess the only reason i didnt do a double din is because i thought it was going to sit too low. i also watch dvd's on mine so it makes a difference. i dont know if the OEM can play dvd's or if it's just nav.

EDIT: here are the pics of mine if you want to see what the single din looks like:

Ive got a 99, and i installed a pioneer avic d1 about 4 months ago. It's been great so far. You could probablly get one really cheap on ebay. If your intersted in a dvd player, you might want to look at the avic d3. I personally like the D1's looks better, but it's up to you.

There are a lot of differences in the D1/D2 and the D3. The biggest being the D3 is a single drive slot BUt it plays DVDs. The D1/D2 are dual drives, one for the navigation disc and the other for your CDs....but it doesn't play dvds. The only way to get DVD playback on those is by running a source to the video input.

The resolution on the D3 isn't all that great either... but don't get me wrong its a great unit for a grand. Its a nice unit for those wanting something with the capability of looking factory but having aftermarket features. Its also not motorized... so you won't be able to adjust the angle of the screen.

Kenwood nav is sweet stuff. I just put in my order for a DDX8019 and the navigation KNAG510, but if you're looking for an all in one unit then the DDX7100 is the way to go.

hey,
Does this OEM system play dvds? is it a dual disc reader, or single reader? does it have an auxiliary in the back for an Ipod? do you have a phone number to them, they havent replied to my emails? thanks in advance.

the Kenwood DNX7100 does look nice, but i dont see many reviews on it.

I am also kind of nervous about the navigation being built in, and being only 2 gigs. A standard dvd is 4.5 gigs. Makes me wonder if it doesnt carry that many POIs,or if it can be updated?

Still, i will consider it and take a look at it when it becomes available, crutchfeild says it wont be out till may.

thanks for the info
