Hi, I have a 2002 4runner sr5. My abs, vsc off, and vsc trac light has been on for a few months and I wanted to try to fix the problem. To get the trouble code I tried a trick I had heard of. I put a paperclip between the E1 and the Tc electrode in the diagnostic box and turned the switch on. It worked, I got a 32 code for the abs and 43 for the vsc. However, I tried to crank it up the next day and something is wrong. the engine turns over, but seems sluggish and wont crank. It doesnt seem as if it is getting fuel. The only other thing I did was change the oil. I checked the battery and it is good. If you guys have any ideas i would greatly appreciate it. Also if anyone could help me find the trouble codes for the abs and vsc systems that would be great. Thanks and have a great day.

Check your fuses, sounds like the EFI fuse might be blown.

There should be a small (I think 15amp) fuse in the engine bay marked EFI, but I could be wrong, I know my 4 cylinder Tacoma had one but I've never looked for it on my 4Runner...

Zach's right, the EFI fuse is up and to the left of the EFI relay (if you're looking at the fuse panel cover from the drivers side fender viewpoint)

Try check the owners manual for an emergency fuel shut off switch for the fuel pump. First to see if it is equipped with one and second if it is, to find its location.
I am new to 4Runners just purchasing my first a month ago, a '99 Limited. But I know most '80's and newer Ford's are equipped with them and designed to trip off if vehicle gets bumped hard or there is an electrical short.

This is one of those pain in the butt issues that is really hard to diag without being there. Do you have spark? Do you have fuel? Is your timing good? I'm really hoping you didnt screw up anyting with the ECU when you jumped those diag ports, I've never heard of anyone doing that on an OBDII vehicle, it's way easier to just plug in a scanner and it tells you the exact code and most auto parts suppliers will scan it for free.

Thanks YotaZach85. It's running right now. I think what happened was that when I was getting the truck to run the codes it got really badly flooded. I turned the switch on several times without cranking it up and the fuel injectors flooded it. I feel kinda dumb, I didn't check the most obvious things first. The only other thing I did that could have fixed it was changing the efi fuse, but the old one did not seem bad. Well, I learned my lesson to not short circuit engine electronics, haha. I got the code meaning from another guy, so i can get that fixed now. Thanks guys.
