2002 4runner w/ 3400 miles

I bought my uncles 2002 4Runner SR5 Sport Edition 2wd back in August. It only had 1400 miles on it when I picked it up. Things have been starting to get a little tough financially. I'm in the process of trying to sell it. What would be a good price to let it go for? Any advice would be most appreciated.

Wow! That is insane. A 2002 with only 3,400 miles.

How do you even do that?

Considering the mileage and the fact that it's super clean I would say at least $10,000 depending on where you live.
 
mid teens in Denver

In Denver you would ask around $15K for this and settle in mid 14s.

Dang that is a beauty... nicely kept. Sorry you need to sell.
 
Wow, that is mint! I'd hate to have to let that go. Especially with only 3,400 miles on it. It's not even broke in yet :D

I'd start off asking $13-15K...but then again, it also depends how quick you need to sell it. That's as clean as they get for a 6yr vehicle.

If it were 4wd, I'd buy it from you right now.
 
If it was 4wd it would go for around $14k but my guess it'll easily go still go for over $10k but start out high and see what you get.

So,was it simply just not driven since that low of miles means it never really got broken in if he was averaging a rediculously low 250miles a year.

drop $2K start at $13K and settle for $12.5

I forgot no 4wdrive-that thing would be a hard sell here

Since its Az i bet you could get top dollar for it if you stick to the price you ask for it. 12-13k is what i would ask for that truck. Should sell quick with that price. 4Runners here sell for about 8-9k for a 2wd with 100k on it. Not to many clean 4runners for sale in Az they dont rust and you dont need a 4wd drive here unless you live up North so people keep there car here for awhile.

Thanks for the input everybody!! I appreciate it. I listed it on craigslist and got a ton of responces. A whole lot of lowball offers though. I have a couple people coming out today to look at it.

My uncle bought it and left it in his garage. Not sure why he never drove it. He had to have it towed to the dealership last year and have the gas tank drained/flushed and fuel injectors cleaned. The battery was also replaced. When I got it I had to pull the battery and charge it. It had about a inch of dust on it lol. This thing runs like a champ!!

I think I might just keep it. The lease on my Caddy is up in Feb and I'm going to need a new daily driver.

If it don't sell it, let the mods begin. Starting off with new wheels.

I could not imagine making monthly pymts on something and not driving it. Lucky you though...

I agree, I'd keep it if it were me. Although, you could always try selling it on ebay.
 
A lot of people like this 3rd gen 4Runner style and its getting harder to find clean examples of it. This one is probably the only one in the United States with this low of miles. I would think it would command top dollar plus maybe another grand because the mileage is so low. Only penalty I see is its only 2WD but by no means is it worth a lot less because of this fact. In AZ I don't see it being much of a factor as mentioned above.

This reminds me of a friend of mine who inherited a 97 Cadillac DeVille from his dad. He only used to to drive to the golf coarse on the weekends and the occasional road trip. It only had 11,000 miles on it when he got it in 2005. Needless to say even though the car was in perfect shape it was a mechanical disaster. Not so much engine and drive train but everything around it and a lot of electrical stuff went out. It quickly became a bigger headache then he was willing to deal with it so he sold it. Since it was in perfect shape and low mileage he got top dollar and then some for it plus it sold within a few days.

Its not known if the problems were related to it sitting around a lot or just typical Cadillac issues they had back then. Needless to say I am a bit nervous when a car has ultra low miles on it and it spent a great deal of time sitting around. One can expect a lot of odd problems from it.

Still I have confidence that a Toyota would hold a lot better from not being used then most domestic makes. Storage in a controlled environment (like a heated garage) and if the fuel is treated with Stabil plus the oil changed every 4 to 6 months (regardless of mileage) I would think a car would do fine under extended storage. The biggest thing is treating the fuel. When fuel goes bad things can get ugly and expensive quick. Stabil and Seafoam will keep gas stable for 12 months and possibly longer. I use Stabil in my motorcycles every winter and they run like a champ in the Spring.

Since my 4Runner will not be a daily driver I might just ad Stabil as a precaution although I do plan to drive it enough to keep fresh fuel in it. Not sure I trust these newer gasoline formulations is the primary reason. You will really not notice it in a car but in a motorcycle the fuel starts to deteriorate in as little as a month. Nothing serious but a shot of Stabil keeps it fresh.
 
I've put on about 2000 miles on since I got it. No problems what so ever. I even took it on a road trip to California. The car was stored in a garage in Fountain Hills Arizona since new. He started it up occasionally and drove it around the block. I think I'll be keeping it. Not sure if I want to sell it now. I'm having second thoughts. The way I take care of my cars this thing will last for 20 plus years. I took it to the dealership when I got it and had it inspected(clean bill of health). The service advisor's jaw dropped whe he saw the miles.

Yes it being in Az does matter. We dont need things like a heated garages its 80 or hotter 300 days of the year. Cars in Az don't rust we dont have snow and we hardly ever see rain. There is a reason that most of the Classic cars are in Az.
