2002 4wd question

I have a 2002 Toyota 4 Runner. One day the dash lights started blinking with out reason. Since that point 4wd would not engage. The lights kept flashing everytime I engaged the 4wd button. Took it to my mechanic, replaced with new OEM actuator and now a used T-case. Now it is stuck in 4wd and won't disengage. Lights continue to flash when I now disengage 4wd. I don't hear the "clunk" like i used to when it was working. Luckily I didn't burn a hole in my wallet since he was a close friend of mine. I'm out of options at this point!
I'm very close to just selling as is, because this is becoming a huge nightmare.

could be the front diff add is gunked up?

gosh im no expert but, i did just think of something. on the 01-02 multimode tcase when you shift into low range it automatically engages 4wd. if that switch was malfunctioning or shorted it might be telling the ecu its in low range and cant switch out of 4wd.

just curious, you did put an 01-02 tcase back in right?

Yes we did put a 02 tcase in. I will look into the switches. Thanks for your in input. If anything else comes to mind let me know D Farms.

I assume the actuator that was replaced was on the T-CASE. Have you also verified operation of the electric actuator on the front diff (ADD system)?
