2002 4wd won't engage!

Own a 2002 SR5 and whenever I push the 4wd selector button I hear a light thunk like the actuator is trying to do it's business but the only result is that the 4wd indicator blinks all wheels green and the diff. orange. The vehicle stays in 2wd and the indicator lights continue to blink until push the button back to the 2wd position. HEELP! I haven't had any previous 4wd probs before and the problem cropped up after I replaced my brakes/rotors plus had the tires rotated. Thanks!

Are your tires all the same size/wear? I doubt it would keep it from actuating but its worth a shot. Try turning in slowly back and forth while actuating 4wd.

2002 won't go into 4 wheel drive

I'm new to this forum so I hope I haven't sent duplicate messages. My 2002 4 runner was taking longer and longer to shift into 4 wheel mode. It would go eventually but take 3-4 minutes instead of maybe 20 seconds. It's been in the shop, with my trusted mechanic, for nearly 2 weeks. He lubricated everything and it shifted a little faster but still not right. He replaced the actuator (is that what it's called?) which by the way was on back order so apparently others are having this problem. That didn't fix it. He got an axle from a salvage place and that didn't fix it. Has anyone found a way to fix this?
