2002 tran pan leak.

problem is that you have a gasket, you need the toyota red FIPG, won't leak again. you need red FIPG, 3 quarts of trans fluid, and about an hour and a half if your on the ground, probably be in at about $60

-Did they physically show you the leak?
-Did you or they confirm it was a minimal leak?
-Do you regularly check your fluid to have a reference of how much you are leaking?
If the answer is no, then before you do anything...
1. Make sure your transmission fluid is filled to the proper level (adding fluid if needed).
2. Give your undercarriage a good cleaning especially around the transmission pan.
3. Each time you are done driving your 4runner for the day, check your fluid levels & trans pan seal/gasket & drain plug to confirm the leak.
*If the trans pan has never been removed then you probably have the Toyota FIPG (formed in place gasket) & not the after market pre-shaped gasket.
For some reason, the trans fluid level seems to be real finicky with where it reads on the dip stick. My recommendation is to keep the conditions in which you check the fluid levels consistent so that your reference point to confirm a leak is as accurate as possible. If you have a scan gauge or something similar, that will make it easy because it will allow you to see your trans fluid temp so you can always make sure it's at the same operating temp each time you check the fluid levels. If you don't have away of checking your temps then you can check it after getting it warmed up but this method seems to give fluctuating readings making it difficult to tell if you're actually leaking fluid.
If the leak around the trans pan seal/gasket is confirmed then call a few different toyota dealers, toyota specialty shops, & any trusted shops in your area to get a price range. BUT, if you have a socket set & don't mind DIY work then this is something that you can do on your own if you want to save a good bit of money. Aside from getting the sway bar out of the way, there is nothing else blocking your access to the trans pan. The most time consuming part is getting the FIPG loosened up to remove the pan.
