I ordered my rear spoiler from Spoilerdepot.com also. It was pretty straightforward to install from the instructions they sent with the equipment.
You will have to drill (4) holes from the template included. Tap into your present rear brake lamp with the snap connectors included in the kit and mount the spoiler. I installed the spoiler in my driveway one Saturday morning in about 2.5 hrs mainly because I, too was very careful when drilling the holes.
***Please note*** that from my observations....your gas mileage suffers at highway speeds from the installation of the rear spoiler. I went from like 22.5 mpg down to 21 mpg at hwy speeds of 65+mph. The spoiler actually catches wind and deflects it down the rear window to help keep it clean. Unfortunately, the spoiler has a fat and bulky space area. Yeah! It looks cool but it does cause a slight bit of a drag to your vehicle.
I would look into the possiblity of installing the spoiler used on the Lexus GX430. This is the bigger brother to our vehicle. The spoiler in which Toyota chose to use on the luxury version of this truck is just a regular "Fin" type version. This spoiler deflects air upward which allows for more down force to the rear of the vehicle....thus better traction at the rear wheels, more stability and less drag!
Also be advised....that I've noticed some control issues from the rear end of the Runner after I installed the spoiler in very windy conditions. We have the strong santa ana winds (50+)mph here is southern California.
This rear spoiler does make the 4 Runner look cool.....even when you haven't purchased the sport edition.
