2003-2004 V6 2WD Gas mileage

Just want to get a general poll on how your V6es are getting in terms of MPG.

I have a 2004 SR5 V6 2WD. I have been getting 15-18 MPG lately (with A/C on all the time because of summer). I do a mixture of city and highway driving. Just wanted to compare and see if there is anything wrong with my vehicle. I only have 4000 miles on it for now.

The computer LCD said it is doing aroudn 19MPG. but not so when i do my own calculations at the pump.

Anyway, I've been getting about 18-20 lately with the AC on (calculated, not using the computer). This is with mostly city driving and some freeway driving. My highest ever was 25mpg. I don't think there's anything wrong with your car, it's pretty easy to get around 15 while driving in the city. I have 20,000 miles and have been using Premium in my tank if that helps you out.

You're right, the computer tends to be off by about 2-3 mpg.

i know the title is v6 2wd (i have a 4x4) but i thought i'd give my 2 cents. i've kept a log of my mileage from the beginning and i've averaged 19.5 mpg, mixture of city and highway. your mileage should increase though as you put more miles on. my mpg has gone up in small increments. and to state the obvious, youre driving habits affect your mpgs too :D.

there people who get < 21 mpgs but i've yet to see those numbers for myself. i dont know how they do it.
 
That's correct. I live in EL MONTE actually. I say i do around 60% freeway and 40% surface street. i am using 89 octane right now. Maybe i should try 91 and see if it would help out. But getting 15 MPG is a big shocker to me giving the fact that i have not driven it like a sports car.

25 MPG sounds great. I will ease off the gas a little and try to drive conservatively and see if i can get a little better gas mileage. Thanks for the info.
 
There have been several threads discussion mpg. I've found that there is a huge difference between city and freeway driving, at least with the V8. When I do mostly freeway driving, I get something closer to 18-20mpg. For around town commuting, it sinks way down to 10-12mpg. These are the actual number (not from the trip computer). The trip computer is occasionally accurate but more often 2-3mpg too optimistic.
 
I'm getting between 21-23 mpg but I don't use the air conditioning much (love the sunroof), have a 110 mile round trip commute every day and average (on the computer - >25mpg on my return trip East (down Afton Mountain).

When I calculate it by hand, I get at least 22 but the AC does draw it down. I haven't had to use 4WD but do when it storms bad just to keep it lubed. I also drive less than or equal to 70 mph average.
 
Averaging 16:

90% city driving, A/C on the entire time (Arizona summer) and punching it off the line WAY too much. This is with a 4x2 V8 sport.

I've done it on a road trip, averaged 22.4 mpg (meadured) on a 4x4 in 2WD mode. Basically, it was perfect conditions so I could use the sunroof or vent, and with holiday traffic I had to keep to the posted speed limits (usually 65 mph or 70 mph). The cruise control kept the constant speed -- trip was 13 hours each way.

Typical mix of in-town and a little highway gets 16-18 mpg.
 
With my V6 4x4 sport in 2WD mode, I usually average about 19MPG for a 70/30 mix of highway/city driving, and AC only when necessary. On a recent trip to the desert, I averaged about 23MPG. That involved about 150 miles of highway driving, along with maybe 20 miles of off roading in 4WD using mostly 4low.

I usually try to milk the gas for all it's worth. AC only when absolutely necessary, cruise control locked at about 67-68 on the freeway, and gradual starts off the line. If someone behind me on the freeway wants to go 70 or 75, they can go around me. I stick with the cruise control to save every penny possible. It's rather rewarding to fill up at the pump, and see that you averaged over 20MPG. My friend is always quick to brag that he's averaging over 30MPG, but can hardly drive over a speed bump without bottoming out.
 
my 4x2 v6 gets 21.0 indicated with 80c/20h driving. At 11kmi right now. Calc mileage is ~1.7mpg less.

On pure hwy cruising, 24.5mpg indicated.

Tires at ~37psi, Michelin Crossterrain.

Not great mpg, and i may sell it soon because of it.
 
i'll be taking a roadtrip up to sf this weekend so we'll see if i can achieve that 23mpgs. its so hard to not drive above 70mph though going through cow country.

heh...ok...well...that's like 7-8 mpg BETTER than my average on my 2003 4x2 v8...still too early to tell on my 2004 4x4 v8...heck, that's better than my 99 mazda 626 (v6)....it's more like what I used to get on my 85 mazda 626 (4cyl) when I drove with a heavy foot.

PS, I usually get around 17-18 MPG in mixed driving. I tend to be mild to slightly agressive with the pedal.
 
Mileage..

Mileage does increase when you put a higher grade fuel..i started off with premium..used to get in the 18's..then with regurlar..17's..and once when I had to use NJ fuel..it fell all the way to 12!!..i think I used regular..not sure..

Here is So. Cal. regular is 87 octane. I noticed recently when I drove to Utah that there were places where regular was 85 octane so I used mid-grade which was 88 octane.
 
Higher octane will not increase your mileage unless your engine was pinging to begin with. I only use regular fuel unless I am going on a trip with four people and luggage. Then I momentary switch to 89 octane. My 03 runner with V8 gets between 14-18 mpg (calculated)
