2003 4 Runner Limited GONE

Well, As you all know Toyota gave me a new 4 Runner a few months back because of the belt problem on the V6's. Just sold the 2nd one it was still making noise after two more fixes and the set was killing my back.
Bought a V8 T-Reg (VW) Let me tell you waht a SUV. The first group had a few minor problems but everthing was corrected on models after Sept production. This this is fast . Cfuises @ 100 no proble. Seats and stereo are the greatest. Only complaint is the Nav is DVD based not GPS like the Toyoya. No big deal. If you get a shot drive one.. No Flames Please'

I am very sorry to hear about your problems. I am a little surprised that you bought another V6, after reading about your problems I thought if I ever replaced my 4Runner I would get a V8. Also, I am not sure why the set was killing your back, maybe your wallet is in your back pocket???

Anyway, Merry Christmas & I hope you enjoy your VW SUV and it is something your happy with. Let us know what you think of your VW after a few months.

I never carry a wallet, just a license and Credit Card. Good the V6 because I liked the part time 4wheel drive. I could feel the difference in the two.Also the market on these have really dropped. Loaded to the max limited runners are going though the auction with less than 5K for 27-28,000.. I retailed it for $32,000. Big lose since I paid $36,500 loaded with every option plus T&T. My friend has a V-8 T-Reg with 7K on it loves it. Just a few little problems, radio speaker and hatch sticking. Other than that perfect. Drive a V8 is you get a chance. Sa,e as the Porsche , better interior and seats at least the way it feels to me.

Good luck with the Treg. I've heard more problems and severe problems from that suv more than any other.

I won't comment on your 4R experience since you feel whatever you feel, and that's valid but if you got the Treg to avoid problems, I wish you very good luck.

The 4 Runner was sold for two reasons:
1 The bottom is dropping out as far as resale. Just look around.
2.Toyota's inability to resolve a minor problem like belt noise.
3. Lousy back support and seats. The worst I have ever had.
Yes I know the Touareg will have problems the first year. But overall the driving experience and performance is worth it. Fit and finish above all. Compare the fit and finish to a MB or BMW, Acura,and more. No one builds a perfect automobile. This is why the service depts are so busy with cars IN WARRANTY. But for the money the T-Reg is a blast.

Your arguments can be said about the Treg as well.

The horror stories of Tregs, initial offering and current production, are frightening. A belt squeak is a grain of salt compared to the disasterous issues Treg owners have had.

If you want to go by resale value, none are higher than the 4R and even if the value dropped (which it won't and isn't) it would still be much higher than the nearest VW ever was or could be. Look at the resale on ANY VW in the past 5-10 years. Where is it compared to ANY Toyota?

Reliability? 4R and VW are on opposite sides of the scale.
Look at the depreciation % on the Treg in 3-5 years compared to the 4R.

There is a good reason the overall cost of ownership, resale, reliability puts the 4R at the top of the scale. But hey, a real truck frame, SA truck with all the characteristics aren't for everyone. People need different things.

Who cares what the differences are since you already bought the VW named after the N. African people that only drive Toyotas.

Anyway, its all moot. You bought the treg so good luck to you. I'm sure there are Treg forums you can visit for info on your new unibody suv.

First.... Let me say, if you sell a brand new vehicle you will take a hit, no matter what. I know Toyota does not have a back log of 4Runners, as a matter of fact people on this board are waiting for their 4Runner. This not the type of market to support a drop of resale value. Traditionally 4Runners have held their value, if all of a sudden it falls through the roof, I'm no dummy I'll buy another one. We will have to see if your prediction turns out to be correct.
