2003-4 v6-v8 Gear Ratios????

Hello everyone,

I am new to the list. I have been talking to dealers about purchasing a new 4runner. Love the truck! Currently looking into the SR5 V6 or V8 with Sports Package.

I don't plan on doing any super heavy towing maybe a trailer with a motor bike in it. Nothing major.

My concern is on the highway. Does any one know if the 8's extra gear is higher or lower? I am assuming lower.

Also does anyone know if the gas mileage comparisons between the 6 and 8 were done while the 6 was in 4wd mode?

Gear ratios are:

V8:

1 - 3.520
2 - 2.042
3 - 1.400
4 - 1.000
5 - 0.716
R - 3.224

Final drive ratio = 3.727

V6:

1 - 2.804
2 - 1.531
3 - 1.000
4 - 0.705
R - 2.393

Final drive ratio = 3.909

I just pulled the numbers from one of the pages listed in Thai's post...it was really useful in researching the 4Runner. I printed it off and keep it in my file cabinet.
