I think "they" got something confused somewhere. I'm pretty sure the same brake caliper/rotor/pads carried over from the end of the 3rd Gen to the 4th Gen.
They could be seeing a couple of different things in their computer and getting confused.
1) The Sport Editions came with bigger front rotors (13.3"), but still used the same pad as the 12.6" rotors. Unfortunately, most look up tools refer to either 16" or 17" wheels instead of rotor diameter. The Limited came stock with 17" wheels, but had the 12.6" rotors just like the SR5...even though the SR5 had 16" wheels standard. Clear as mud?
2) There was a brake TSB for '03, '04, and early '05 models to change from a one piece shim to a 2 piece shim on the front to solve an inconsistently soft pedal feel. The new shim kit is available separately for purchase, if like me, you didn't find out about it until after your 3/36 was expired.
3) Apparently, Toyota recently *did* change the part number for the front pads. I picked up new pads last Thursday, expecting 04465-35290, but he gave me 04465-YZZ1A and said it was a recent change...still had the 32590 part in stock, if I wanted. The YZZ1A part (made in USA) comes with yet another new shim design, as well.
FWIW, toyodiy.com does distinguish frame codes for 2K3 models as before and after 11/02, but they all appear to use the same pad number.
