Its quality is above others. Nothing in its class comes close, aside from the GX470 which is the 4Runner's more expensive cousin. I can't get over the GX's barn door, deal breaker IMO.
Overall, the 4Runner is very good. I don't have all the common issues, but mine isn't immune from it either. I have the driveline clunk/thump and the sunroof rattle. I don't have the squeaking driver's seat yet.

you won't go wrong with the 4Rr. i love the 3rd gen since 99 but couldn't afford one back then. i'll say it is by far the most reliable SUV on the market at the moment. (most toyota vehicles are the most reliable anyway).
the Limited 4R gives you the luxury in the class.

I bought my 03 Limited new 5 years ago. It now has 50k and has never needed anything other than normal service: fluid changes, filter changes, front pads and that's about it.
If you search some of the threads you will find plenty of folks with 100k+ on their trucks with the same experience. Perform the recommended service and you should have a very long lived, trouble free vehicle.

I have 32k on my 03 SR5. Zero problems so far. I am totaly satisfied. This is the only new vehicle I ever bought new that has never been back to the dealer at least once and had zero recalls. It was also my 1st Toyota. I will only buy Toyotas or maybe Hondas from now on.
Im not going to say the car is bulletproof (although you'd be surprised), but it is a DAMN GOOD TRUCK! This is my second T4R. My 94' T4R has over 130k miles on it, and has never needed nothing more than Gas, Oil, and new Tires! I just bought an 08' Limited and LOVE IT! These are solid cars, because they are a platform used by the Lexus division. Whenever you see a Lexus car based on a Toyota model...your getting the REAL DEAL! The 4Runner will outperform many, if not all, SUV's in its class in any contest. You made the right choice....now, let the modding begin!

I bought my 2003 Limited V8 used about a year ago and have been thoroughly impressed with reliability - only service has been oil/filter change. Mind you, most of the recommended service was performed just prior to my purchase (new tires, brakes, fluids).
I traded my Lexus LS400 in on this T4R - still have most of the creature comforts on the inside - heated leather seats, 6 disc cd changer.
The Lexus was in the shop far more frequently than I wanted, and getting costly to maintain - plus there were no really qualified mechanics in my area to work on it. My T4R has only been to the shop for a TSB - ice build up on heater blower motor.
And the LS was a beast in the Canadian winters slipping and sliding all over the place. The T4R just loves the snow!

Hi Rockwall. I have an 03 Limited as well. Purchased it 'certified' used from a dealer with 37k on it in April 06. Over 2 years later, 68k and nothing but regular service. I have been doing my own oil service, etc, and going to the dealer every 10k miles for a look over and recommended services like fluid flushes, driveline service, etc). I have had no major issues.
I did have the driver's seat squeak, but was able to diligently shove a WD40 can w/nozzle down into the tracks, seat bolts, seatbelt bolts, etc, and that stopped all noise.
I also had a CD changer meltdown where the player would jam and not load my CDs (error 3). Many hours of troubleshooting later, and following some great posts here on the forum, I purchased an 05 JBL radio from eBay for about $130 and swapped it out... no troubles.
I have owned a few other Toyota and Lexus vehicles and have always had great luck. I did have a 91 LS400 that started to get costly to maintain after around 90,000 miles... but that was traded in for a VW. the VW after 40,000 was about as expensive to maintain as the Lex at 90.
