Hey - I'm new to the site - hey everyone!
I have a 2003 4runner 4.7l v8. 135k on engine - dealer wants $600 to replace just the timing belt & new tensioners. My feeling is, while we're here - put on a new water pump and flush the radiator. Is there anything else outside the serpintine belt?

Also, anyone out there ever done this job themselves?

thx

Welcome!:D

Most opt for a water pump and fresh anti-freeze as you're thinking about. I wouldn't do the job without a water pump... I say do it. The external belt and maybe an idler/tensioner pulley might be in order. Depending on where you live the fanclutch may be getting tired too (unlikely but worth a look). Those things are easy to deal with later, the water pump is not.

I say go for the timing belts/water pump and flush the radiator. While youre at it why not flush the tranny too?

135K ? is that a km's I assume, otherwise you quite due for TB service. Mine still about 1-2 years away but I'm definatelly going to do it myself when time comes. I did it on my previous Audi A8 and it took me a weekend to get it done, it was fun and relatively easy and straight forward with proper tools. But I had detailed step-by-step write-up how its done. May be somebody will make one by then, or I will but again, its couple years away

You may want to do the starter contacts, PCV valve, idler bearings as well as the water pump and timing belt.

Yes flush the radiator.

Hey Paraordnance - 135k miles and rolling strong. One of the best vehicles I have every purchased. At 120k, I threw tires, platinum tip plugs, air filter. Oil every 5k. I expect this vehicle to hit 400k before I consider selling.
