2003 drivers door lock failure anyone?

My drivers side door lock no longer works! Neither with the keyless entry or the inside button on the door. Key in the door does work though!

Any suggestions?

Take it to the dealer as it should be under warranty.

So I guess this is not an issue anyone else has had with their 4runner? Nothing that can be checked or be done by the owner? I did check the fuse. It must be a wire harness, ECU, or lock actuator issue. I was hoping it was an ECU issue that could be reset.

Sounds like an actuator problem. My parents had that same problem on an X5 where the door would not open or close with the keyless entry. Took about 45 minutes to replace.

I'm having a problem where the 20amp fuse under the hood blows for the door locks and gives the same problem. My dealership says it's the lock actuators overheating and I'm still waiting for them to get the parts in to fix it.

Check your fuse box under the hood for the 20a fuse. It's probably blown.

I've blown at least half a dozen 20a fuses since 2003.

Not one problem with my locks, yet. Is it just the drivers door. Can you open the other doors with the remote? If so, then I suspect it's not the fuse. Might be a loose connection to the acutator inside the door.

Yep. All other doors unlock fine. It's the one actuator or a loose connection to it. I'm going in tomarrow to have them look at it.

Well I'm still disappointed about the lock reliablilty on my 4runner.

BUT My dealer kicks butt and not only ordered the part before I showed up, but installed it quickly for me.


All is good again!

good deal, I had to take my old 03 in twice to get it (once for them to verify it was the lock actuator, second time to install the part after they received it). but like you, the install time was very minimal...

was really weird. you'd hit the "lock all doors" button on the door and hear the door try to lock twice. if you pressed the lock button on the remote, it wouldn't beep and arm...you'd also hear it try twice. so the good news I learned is that the car is smart enough to know the doors not locked...

also had it happen once with one of the passenger doors on my 04. I'd hit the unlock button just as someone pulled the handle. something got fowled up in the lock mechanism. the power locks would act like they did on my driver door problem (try twice and give up). All I had to do to "fix" it was manually lock/unlock the door with the non-power method (flip the switch on the handle to lock it and then manually unlock it). Seemed to work just fine after that.

As i hate the dealer much less anyone else touching my 4runner for that fact....i'd take the door apart and see if a wire is crimped or grounding out somewhere... the actuator might be bad... i don't know...

it's easy to pop off the door panels and take a look.....

but that is covered under warranty ...

Glad it was fixed. You could have expierenced the reliability of an X5. Three actuators later and the door still doesn't open everytime the car is opened.

There is a Technical Service Bulletin about this for the 2005 model, but probably for other years as well.

Driver Door Lock

Mine just went...2003 with 36325 miles! All the other locks work with keyless but the driver door won't. Anyone have this fixed? If so, how and how much?

Well I just lost the drivers side rear door lock actuator! And my lumbar adjustment motor on the drivers seat seems to be burned out.

Damn!

I took my door lock problem in to be fixed. Replacing the drivers and passenger side actuators was going to cost close to $800!! However, the service writer said he spoke to the person above him and both agreed that these systems shouldn't be failing. They offered to split the cost with me...just less than $400. Do it!
They had the drivers side in stock and had to order the passenger side. It's a good thing...replacing the drivers side resolved both problems. Apparently, the drivers side is sort of a master for all of the locks and fixing it fixed the passenger side. They all work...and since they only replaced the drivers side, I got out of there for about $140.

Well now I really need to go into the dealer! I now have two bad door locks (that will make 3 total that have gone bad) and the lumbar support in my drivers seat is burned out! I hope my extended warranty covers it!

I keep you guys posted on how it goes.
