2003 DVD changer - play DVD's on Navigation

Hi ant46, and welcome to the forum,
I know that Lexus LX470 (and GX470 too i think) can play DVD movies on NAV screen from their DVD/CD changer in the center console/armrest. You put the DVD movie into slot #1 (ONLY slot #1) to play it...but you must have your handbrake engaged. Basically, you cannot play the DVD movie if the car is moving. Some people have found a way to bypass this safety feature.
So, try Lexus dealership...and ask for the CD/DVD changer on the LX470 and see if they are compatible with your NAV system.

Carefully remove the center dash display cover panel (black or wood grain) from the multi display/radio (use the rounded end of a bottle opener to pry it gradually and gently or you will break one of the 8 locating clips) Unplug the clock connector at the bottom and set the cover aside. Remove 4 Phillips screws from Multi Display panel and balance the entire unit on the shifter. Careful not to let anything scratch the touch screen. Locate grey connector (no need to disconnect) on back of unit top row (directly inline with front side temperature up and down button) then locate VIOLET wire, cut it about 2 inches from connector and tape off the two cut ends. (This eliminates the speed signal turning off the video) Next locate red/white wire in same connector and also cut it BUT leave about 4 or 5 inches or so of wire remaining at the connector side. NEXT strip

Hey man I've got the same problem with wanting to play DVD's from the stock NAV system. I also would like to play them from a DVD/CD changer if possible. I find all of this pretty strange considering that in the NAV manual there are pictures of the NAV screen with a changer hooked up and the ability to select and play dics via the NAV touch screen. Any help is much appreciated!! Thanks.

Exactly. i find it strange as well. i can't get any info from anyone at any toyota dealership. are they all a bunch of idiots? originally my dealer told me i could play dvd's on the nav system just the way it was, without a changer. well, i haven't been able to and they have no info for me. now i've found out that there is a changer available that mounts in the 2nd compartment in the glove box. it's a 6-disc dvd/cd changer which will enable you to watch dvd's. the problem is that it's an aftermarket or non-toyota part and has to be installed by another company according to my dealer. they want to charge me over a grand to do it. which means both my dealer and the installer are making money off of it. all i'm trying to do is find out what the part is and where to order it. Hey Nice Job man. I called them and they just said they had no clue and blew me off. I hope we all can find a resolution, because I think that it would be an amazing feature. But please keep me and us all posted on what they say to ya tom. Thanks again and hopefully we can get this worked out.

You know what guys, i tried the very same thing and got the same exact response. no one knew anything or could direct me in the right direction. i've been to 4 or 5 toyota dealers with exactly the same result. i find it hard to believe that it's printed in the manual and no one knows anything about it. i agree it would be a great feature and an amazing addition to an already amazing truck. keep me posted on what you guys find out, i'll do the same on my end.

Just bought a 4Runner LTD w/Nav, and I am intrigued with the possibility of watching movies on the NAV screen.
Dealers are indeed clueless on what player is compatible, and I also got a vague reference to after market installers associated with the dealership.
Any new information would be appreciated.

Toyota, did call me back, and the guy said it was something that had been planned for the vehicle, and he was not sure whether Toyota would ever carry the DVD/CD changer. I also showed my dealer the navigation manual, where it shows a DVD/CD changer in the glovebox, but I have not heard anything from them.
Does anyone have the CD changer that fits in the console connected to the Navigation/Radio? Is it difficult to install?

I think the DVD player would be real neat, but in reality do you really need it. Are you going to sit in your car and watch movies? I think for me the money would be better spent on a portable computer that has DVD play back. Plus, I would have a place to download and preview images from my digital camera while on vacation.

Need? Well i don't really NEED it but it would be cool as hell. Plus I do a lot of long snowboarding trips every weekend where i usually have 2 or 3 of my friends with me and wouldn't it be cool if they had something to do while i was driving. Plus to keep things neat and clean and stock is really what i'm looking for. i'd rather not add things and have a portable dvd player in the car with wires hanging out and all that.

I've done exactly the same thing, called toyota, went to the dealer with my manual and they're all clueless. ALL of Toyota. it's ridiculous how stupid and clueless they all look. Let me know if you find anything though. THanks.

Your friends will be able to listen but they won't see much while you are driving because the video is disabled.

No worries on that, there's a relatively easy fix for that. I have instructions on how to make it so that you can watch DVD's while driving. Again not that I'm going to watch while driving but it will be nice to have passengers watch on a long trip including myself when others are splitting the driving duties with me. If anyone has any info on how to get DVD's to play on the stock navigation please let me know.
