I've got a question for the 4th Gen. owners: Supposedly, our 4runners have a 23 gallon gas tank. However, when my electronic center display says that I have "0" miles until I'm out of gas, and I go and fill the tank up, I am only able to put 21 gallons of gas into the tank. I am assuming that the Electronic display is 2 gallons off. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Thanks for the input.

Why you would even think of ever going until the meter says 0 or you're virtually out of gas, I don't know.... I hope you are aware that the bottom of the tank always has sediments and junk that you really don't want it running thru your motor.... My suggestion is always refill prior to getting close to empty..
Aside from that, I don't know actually as I've never let my level go that low.

fyi... none of the guages work 100%.. Or i've yet to see any of em work.

That's what I thought until I saw that thing at 118 when it was only 95 outside... ?!?!
I think all car manufacturers purposely build a little "buffer" into their gas guages, digital or not (probably a legal thing). Most all guages on most all cars will still have at least one gallon left when the guage indicates empty -- unless the guage is misaligned.
I have found that the outside temperature indicator to be pretty accurate. However, driving over a concrete or asphalt highway will always indicate a few degrees hotter than driving on a partially shaded street or road.

This is probably due to the air directly over a sunny road being a bit warmer...think heat shimmers...
IIRC, the Owner's Manual mentions that the outside air temperature sensor is in the fresh-air intake duct. I don't know how well shielded it is from engine heat or sun-heated sheet metal (hood, fender panels, etc.).
