2003 Fuel Gauge

Hi everyone. This is my first post to this forum. I have been reading for a while as I have a 2003 SR5 4runner. I am having some issues with the fuel gauge. It's doing the dreaded full to empty to half full syndrome. I am pretty sure it is the sending unit, right? My question is how hard is it to drop the tank? Could someone walk me through it, or is it pretty simple. Truck only has 78,000 miles and other than this issue it has been great.

I am pretty sure there is an access hole cut into the floor under the rear seat to allow access to the top of the gas tank. You may not have to drop the tank. I have never done this but saw it in a shop manual.

I'm having exactly the same issue with my '03 and would appreciate any information on whether you were successful in fixing it and the steps you went through.
