2003 non sealed trans fluid replacement info wanted.

I have a 2003 non sealed transmission, long story short this was my wife's before we were married now its mine. Just passed the 222,22X mark, transmission shifts fine and never had any problems with it. To my knowledge, or hers the transmission has never been serviced.

Checked the fluid today and its, well, not red anymore as to be expected. It also does not smell burnt.

What would be the best approach to the fluid service, if any. My worry is any type of flush at this point would cause transmission problems. Would a drain and fill be better, or multiple over time to slowly clean the trans fluid. Or should i not worry to much about it as it shifts just fine with no problems.


Any input would be great.

This topic has been absolutely beaten to death on here, so my suggestion would be to use the search function, grab a beer, and start reading. You'll find a lot of discussion on the topic, and also a lot of strong opinions.

I just did a drain and fill on mine, think I may have put to much in so ill just drain it again.
