2003 Sports Edition Moonroof

During a rainstorm, I noticed that water seems to leaks a little either through the moonroof or somewhere on the roof where there's plastic moulding, but it seems that Toyota cleverly adjusts for this with a channel under the moonroof that seems to direct water away to some exit point under the vehicle.

Does anyone know where this exit point is in order to ensure that it does not get clogged? Exit points should both in the front and rear of the vehicle to adjust for whether the car is on an incline or disincline.

The reason is that I've noticed some condensation under the glass after it rains and if I leave the sun cover pulled closed, but no actual water dripping onto the seats or through the roof.

Also, I noticed one day when it was not raining that there was water dripping under my vehicle. Upon further inspection, I noted that there are two holes on each front corner on the bottom of the vehicle. just inside where the front wheels are. One of the holes was plugged with debris, and when I cleared it out, rain water gushed out. My vehicle was on my driveway and front facing up the slope.

So, if the water comes through into the moonroof channel and if the car is also in a disincline, that must mean the exit point for that water is somewhere in the rear of the vehicle.

I'm not sure if these are the only drains, but there are clear tubes that run down the "C" pilars over each rear wheel well and down & out the bottom of the rear quarters. The ones you saw may be drains for the front of the moonroof as well or those could be drains for the cowl area or somewhere else. I didn't check the exit of those tubes, but the tubes themselves seemed pretty clean. Visually you can see the tubes with the lower interior panels in the cargo area removed (saw them while soundproofing).

I only noticed this while sitting in my vehicle during a rainstorm and hearing a drip drip, but having no water come into the cabin. The water seemed to drip right into the channel where it was routed away.

If so, it's interesting how Toyota would design in a fail safe for in case the moonroof leaked.

yeah i noticed it on my 2006 going through a carwash, i thought it was strange too.

The drain near the firewall and wheel are most likely for the AC evaporator.

The moonroof does have drains, I don't recall on which corners, but there are drains in the corners for front and back.
