2003 Toyota 4 Runner Stranded in Germany

Hi

Can anyone please help me.

We have a 2003 Toyota 4Runner SR5 V6 broken down in Germany with a transmission problem. All the Toyota dealers I speak to cannot tell me whether it has the special transmission fluid called World Standard (WS) or not and the manual doesnt mention this.

If anyone can help me I would be grateful as Toyota are saying although it is only 2years old we have to pay for the repairs

Im definitely no mechanic, but these articles suggest Toyota switched to the WS fluid in 2003 when they introduced the 5speed.. ??

If it does NOT have a dip stick it is WS. Someone had posted that the WS can be used, I'm not sure. The 03 V6 has a 4 speed.

All 5 speeds are WS.

4 speed is regular toyota fluid.

The US has a 5 year/60k mile powertrain warranty. It should cover anything but damage due to abuse or lack of maintenance.

AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION

Fluid capacity (drain and refill), L (qt., imp. qt.):

1GR-FE engine
Up to 2.0 (2.1, 1.8)

2UZ-FE engine
Up to 3.0 (3.2, 2.6)

Fluid type:
Toyota Genuine ATF Type T-IV

Change automatic transmission fluid only as necessary.

Generally, it is necessary to change automatic transmission fluid only if your vehicle is driven under one of the Special Operating Conditions listed in your "Scheduled Maintenance Guide" or "Owner's Manual Supplement". When changing the sutomatic transmission fluid, use only "Toyota Genuine ATF Type T-IV" (ATF JWS3309 or NWS6500) to aid in assuring optimum transmission performance.

Notice: Using automatic transmission fluid other than "Toyota Genuine ATF Type T-IV" may cause deterioration in shift quality, locking up of your transmission accompanied by vibration, and ultimately damage the automatic transmission of your vehicle.

Please contact your Toyota dealer for further details.

Just wanted to say thanks for all the information you have given me. It is still under warranty but we are having a battle with Toyota about the repair etc. We just had it serviced here in the UK so they have done something wrong its just finding out what. Im taking legal advice now so will keep you all posted im just glad my husband is stationed in germany for 6 weeks and we can get it sorted out as he's getting a little annoyed with us brits, i guess im just used to it.

I really appreciate all your help as being female cars really arent my thing

A 2003 4WD with the 6 cylinder would have a 4-speed tranny. It wasn't until the 2005's that Toyota went to the 5 speed on the 6 cylinder at least in the U.S.
