2004 4R locked me out twice!

I'm getting a little paranoid now :bonk:

Just now I needed to jump off my sis in law's Accord. In my driveway, I hit the unlock fob, got in, started up, moved it 20 feet, put in park, popped the hood latch, got out, raised hood, successfully jumped car, close hood, walk back to get in, I was locked out with engine running! Did I hit fob then exit vehicle within 30sec? Could be..maybe...

About 2 mons ago, long drive in woods, got to gate, put in park, left running, stepped out to unlock gate, came back..locked out !!
Started looking at which window I was going to break with a tree limb :upset: :cursin: Until I remembered I had wired a key under the bumper 2-3 years ago. Took me 15min to find it. :dancin:

I can't absolutely remember anything else like maybe hitting the unlock buttons inside the door before stepping out just by habit or such, but I don't think so.

I read the manual just now, and not sure if the door lock options are what I'm after. Maybe the 12-15mph thing would be better? Pretty sure its set to stock/new right now.

Can anyone offer some insight on this scenario and how to avoid? :help:

After dealing with possessed door locks on my Range Rover, when I have to leave the keys in and the car running, I roll my window down. If the locks actuate, I just reach in and pop the latch on the door.

Haven't read the owner's manual for a long time now but I'm sure the T4R has an anti-lockout feature when the key is in the ignition. See section 4 at the end of the attached wiring diagram. IIRC, whenever the key is in the ignition (on or off?) and a door is opened the locks will cycle to unlock when you try to lock them. I remember playing with this and testing it out shortly after getting the vehicle. Roll your window down (to avoid potentially getting locked out) and try various scenarios of locking and unlocking with the ignition on and off, doors opened then closed plus locking to see what happens. Let us know what combination fails.

Also, change your settings (as per the owner's manual) for your shift lever interlock so that the doors automatically unlock when you put it into park.

I definitely am opening a window for the last few months. Seems kinda silly tho. (until I was about to bust that window before I started doing that!)

Looks like the shift lever option might be best for me. Any downsides to that? I might not want that for my wife in a mall parking lot or such for safety, but she rarely drives my 4R.

I tested this out again since it's been so long and I take it for granted. I'm unable to lock myself out so I'm suspecting you have a mechanical issue with the red lock lever.

Help me diagnose it. The following questions are all about the driver's door regardless of the shift lever option or other auto lock/unlock settings.
1) Do you get the door chime with the key in the ignition (off and on) and the door open? It should chime.
2) With the door closed and locked, does the red lock lever (above the door handle) toggle from unlock to lock when using the key fob? It shouldn't. And with the inside electric lock button? It should.
3) With the door locked, open the door using the inside door handle only. Does the red lock lever move to the unlock position with the door handle? It should.
4) With the door open and key in the ignition, does the door lock with the key fob? It shouldn't.
5) With the door open and key in the ignition, does the door lock but then immediately unlock when you use the electric lock button or when you push the red lock lever forward? It should.

If any of these tests fail then I suspect the inside lock lever.
