2004 4runner Brake Caliper ??

Hello,

I am in the process of doing a front brake job on a 04 4runner SE v-6 model. I took the brake caliper off and didnt know you are not supposed to take the caliper apart until I had already done it. I called Toyota and they confirmed you are not supposed to take the caliper apart just take the caliper loose to change the pads. My question is had anyone taken a caliper apart before? Brake fluid went everywhere. I put the caliper back together and the leak stopped. Does anyone know how many rubber o rings are inside the caliper once they are split apart? I put one back in that is near the top of the caliper and lines up with where the brake line fits onto the caliper. Once I put the wheel back on I found another o ring on the ground. I didnt know if I missed an o ring or if there is just one o ring in that caliper??? Thanks Mac

I haven't taken my calipers apart yet, but I am fairly sure that there are two 'o' rings sealing the fluid passages between the two halves of the caliper. One on the top, and one on the bottom.

Thats what I think also. I think I have the top installed but not the bottom. The caliper now has a slow leak. Do you know of a way to keep the fluid from flowing out once I take the caliper apart to add the bottom o ring? Thanks

You would have to be careful, but a set of forceps, or needle nose vice grips to clamp the brake line hose will do the trick. Just be careful to cushion the jaws, so as not to do damage to the line.

It is a HD wire screen fit over the fresh air intake under the wiper cowl. It keeps the critters from climbing inside your heat ducts and building a nest or stashing pine nuts for winter storage. Sounds strange, but it happens quite a lot up here in the Northeast.
