2004 4runner sulfer smell

i have a 2004 4runner with sulfer smell and toyota dealer says there is nothing they can do because my vin # has no tsb or any recall. looking for any help

I have an 04 sr5 v-6 and mines not smelly This smell is sometimes cause by a faulty catalytic converter. Have that checked by your Toyo dealer and see if thats the culprit. Toyota should replace that if it is bad.

mudder69 my toyota dealer said that my vehicle has no tsb or recall and when i told them about the one i read on this site they told me because of my vin# they can't put a new one on. I'm waiting to hear from an arbitrator. i'm looking to see if anyone else has had the same problem or given the same excuse!!

Don't you hate that? Your car has the exact problem described in a TSB and yet the dealer does nothing cuz your VIN doesn't match.

I tried and failed to get my dealer to check my belt pulleys after the belt started squealing but my VIN number apparently didn't come up in the lottery or something.

However, isn't the catalytic converter covered under the fairly long emissions warranty?

I have a 2004 SR5 V8 and have been complaining about the sulfer smell for over a year. Apparently I didn't have the right VIN number either because they wouldn't replace the catalytic converter at first.

After more months of complaining they replaced it. It's a little better than before but if I accelerate up hills it still stinks like sulfer.

First question is-Will the dealer only replace the cat under the 2004 sulfur tsb only if your vin#'s match? Second. Can you get something fixed for a tsb if you have the extended warranty?

I have been able to find 03-04 V6, and 06 V6 & v8

I had the TSB done on mine and it still smells like sulfer.
