2004 T4R HID Retrofit Teaser

hey what company are you using for the HID's? I have an 07 with projector lamps and I am unsure of who to use. There are soooo many companies
 
Although I cannot speak for paraordnance (I don't know what he used), but there is alot of crap out there. Check retrofit source or Lightwerkz.net. They only use the best out there for a retro. I've used lightwerkz and their work/products are second to none!

I bolted them with threaded rod to a headlight reflector.
And no, I never did a write-up, the proces is so straight forward there is really nothing to write about. Take apart your headlights, mount projectors, assemble back and test them.

I retrofited projectors myself. Are you talking about HID kit? I have 2 kits, one from DDM, second from Retro-Solutions. Both great kits, both 55 watt and they still work no problems.

thanks. i'm more curious about how you aimed them after mounting, etc. Did you use the factory adjusters on the back of the headlight or did you play around with the mounting bolts, etc. From my research, it seems like its quite a feat to adjust for perfect cutoff/right height and perfect direction-> | | instead of | \ etc
 
fyi i have tsx projectors, 35w ballasts, ds2 bulbs. I have taken apart the headlights currently, and waiting or my gatling gun shrouds to arrive via mail before I start dremelling and tapping. I was wondering if its as simple as line up the projector with the right angle etc as the halogen was, then just adjust horizontal and vertical with factory knobs on the back of headlight.

yes, you right, aligning projectors horizontally and vertically is probably the hradest task. I measured and tested everything 3-4 times, only then started drilling. I used threaded rod range of adjustment to get it close and then fine tuned with factory adjusters on the back of headlight. I think the hardest part of this task is to have projectors aligned rotationally. If you mount projector even 1 degree on the angle it will show like a sore thumb on not paralell (to the ground) cut-off. I was lucky enough that both of my projectors were aligned perfectly from first try. I sealed headlights back and installed them only after extensive testing
 
when u say 'rod' do you mean a 10-24 screw/bolt? also, how did you measure and test the projector in the reflector bowl without drilling space to 'seat' it first? or did you dremel a hole, seat it and the do the measurements/testing?
i appreciate your feedback, and i have done numerous searches on hidplanet but i find there are a lot of question threads, but not that many good answers...
last question! when u did the washer mod, what size washer, how many and what type did you throw on the nipple?

I used threaded rod, smallest I could find, I don't remember dimensions of it, you can also use bolts if they long enough, I could not find bolts long enough for the job.
I roughly cut the hole in reflector first than fired up projector and started aligning it in relation to reflector. Once you know where it will sit mark your holes. Also, I drilled my holes for threaded rod slightly bigger so I had some room to wiggle around.
For TSX I found 2 washers was the best, I don't remember the size, its not crucial, if it fits - it will work.

got the GG shrouds...and they are huge. Also, when i put together the GG, prjecter in the reflector, the lens doesnt really come to be snug at opening of the GG. it sits a little back. Did your do that too? Also, what did you use to adhere the shrouds to the reflector?

what projector you using? I cut my GG shrouds from the back a little. Like 3/8" or so. I made them sit as far back on TSX projector as possible. Otherwise you might have issues to clear your headlight lense.
I used high-temp silicone (red) to secure shroud to the projector. It may develop hazing on headlight lense so be warned! It never happened on my set but I read that silicone will evaporate some compounds and create haze inside of headlights. I would use JB weld instead
