2004 V6 Muffler

Living in the northeast, rust is a problem. With 138K our 4 Runner has held up well.
Just doing a little POR 15 on welds etc. to keep the winter at bay. While underneath it is obvious the exhaust system is going to need some replacement in the near future. Most of the connectors have a lot of rust. I do wash the underside and use SaltX once in a while.
In the past I have seen comments about different systems. I really do not desire to have a loud system or one that drones. We do a bit of long distance driving especially in the winter.
Just curious if anyone has any comments on the available exhaust systems. With the milage we have on , something expense like Borla is probably out.

That's surprising to me. the exhaust system (including the muffler) is stainless steel, so I wouldn't think it should be that bad on a 2004.

I also own a 2004 that sees plenty of road salt. I have rust on the chassis, but my exhaust system is still perfect. Are you sure your 4Runner has the factory exhaust on it?

Yes it is original. Bought the 4 Runner and waited a month while it was being put together in Japan. Yes it is cared for, as I said, the frame is not in bad shape. Bruce
