2004 v8 4wd

I recently got a 2004 4Runner V8 limited and I am a little confused with the 4 WD system. It has the push button system with H4 - L4. I can't figure out if it is all time 4WD or there is a problem with the system. I got it into 4 WD low no problem. I called a couple dealerships but got mixed answers, one saying it was all time 4WD and the other saying it was not working. I do not have the owners manual.

Any help is appreciated

Thanks

not to be a ****, but seeing as these threads are fairly prevalent, it astounds me that people buy a vehicle and not know basic, important info such as, "is my car 4WD?".

Yes, full-time, in either hi or low.

By your left knee is a button showing 4 wheels. That's the center differential lock. That works in either hi or low and is mostly for off-road surfaces that are more slippery than pavement.

So, 4 modes total but you'll rarely need anything other than standard full-time hi.
