2004 Zerks confirmation

i plan to lube the driveshaft, today i sneaked under my 4runner to look for zerks and found 6 of them, one spider joint zerk on the rear near the diff, one spider and one slip on the rear near the transfer case, one spider joint zerk on the front near the diff, one spider & one slip joint zerk on the front near the transfer case. pls. anyone confirm if i identified the zerks correctly, need to be careful not to pump too much grease into the slip joint zerks.

Six zerks sounds correct -- at least for the 4x4 model. I think you must have found all of them.

I am more worried if I have correclty identified the slip joint where i need to be careful not to push too much lube

Slip joint is usualy pretty dry from the factory. You shouldn't have any trouble if you over lube it. But 5-10 pumps should be enough for slip joints and 1-3 for spiders.

How do you "over-lube" one of those zerks anyway? Won't any excess grease just squeeze out the other side? I may be incorrect, but it would seem to me that any extra goo will fly off onto the undercarriage because of the centrifugal force exhibited by the driveshaft.

Then again, I am "old school" and may be way off base here. I have always just pumped the grease gun until I see it come out between the cracks/joints. Grease - even synthetic - is still not very expensive in the grand scheme of things.

Actually, you can pump too much grease into slip joint. It would take a lot of grease when joint is not compressed (level ground). But when you hit a bump or a hill that joint will compress rapidly. Best case scenario excess goo will come out out at the seal, at worst it can push seals out. Do not ask how I know this...
