2005 2WD front suspension blow out ?

Car is in the shop for timing belt service and a few other things.
Mechanic called to ask if I do much off-road (I don't do any off-road).

Said the right front suspension is limp, can push up on the tire/wheel when truck is on the lift. No shock action. Easy to push the wheel up.

Very expensive, holding off on any work on that until I check it myself.

Ideas ?

He can push on the suspension and make the wheel and tire go up and down? Something there is fishy... Even if your shocks were blown, the spring is what supports the weight of the vehicle, not the shocks. How is he going to push against a spring designed to hold up a 5,000lbs SUV?

I'll jack it up this weekend and compare left and right. They said it was weird, nothing they have seen before. Not trying to sell me anything, they had no parts in stock for this problem and found it while giving the shocks a quick test.

shocks are cheap, do them yourself if that is the problem.
