2005 4Runner replacing factory nav...

I am looking into the possibility of replacing my factory nav system with the Pioneer AVIC-F90BT.

I am trying to weigh the pros and cons of doing this, but my current nav data is seriously outdated in my area, and I really would like to have iPod control, and most options seem to be expensive and clugey for my 05 Nav (the 06 Nav would have been much better).

A few questions I have though:

My first concern is my rear view camera. I would like to re-use my current factory rear-view camera if possible. Does anyone know if this can be done, and if so where can I obtain some pin-out information?

Secondly, I would like to retain steering wheel control. Is the PAC SWI-X the best solution for this?

Thirdly, is it possible to re-use my factory GPS antenna (assuming there is one mounted somewhere, I guess I am not sure how that is setup).

Any insight on this would be greatly appreciated. Just trying to see if this is feasible or worth doing.

Any other general thoughts on this would also be welcomed.

Have you looked to see if there is a newer map data DVD available first? I know they charge an arm and a leg for them - but might be cheaper thru online yota parts dealer. Seems with aftermarket you'd loose the JBL amp too.

Yeah, you know I have been having huge dilemma on this for quite some time...

A new DVD is about $300 from the dealer... I have seen it online for as low as $100, who knows if the source is reputable or not.

But yes you are right, the JBL Amp would be bypassed, and I may re-install some after market Kicker amps that I used in a previous vehicle.

A new System gets me quite a bit more functionality than the current system though too.

If getting an Aux in wasn't so expensive I'd be more tempted to just do that. But for $200 or so dollars for an iPod hookup, plus $300 for a new DVD, I can find these pioneer units for $599.

I'm preparing to install an FB90T right now, using the PAC SWI-PS for steering wheel controls and TATO to hook up to the JBL amp.

One nice thing about this is that the TATO comes with a harness that plugs into the R1/R12 connector to power the HU and includes a harness for the SWI-PS which plugs into R5/R10.

I'm not sure if my '05 has the R9 connector which provides reverse, park and speed signals, hopefully it's there and I don't have to locate them elsewhere.

Very cool! I can't wait to hear more about it. I've decided to wait until April to start working on the truck... It's a little cold up here in Minnesota to be messing around too much
