2005 4runner to 2000 - Concerns?

Embarrassingly I did an introduction thread and a build thread for my new 4runner at the beginning of this year and never finished it! Added a CB Radio and that was it....

I have a 2005 T4R SR5 2WD (100k) and have come to the realization that it's probably just better to go ahead and buy a 4wd vehicle than try to mod a 2wd into what it's not. The hair that broke the camel's back was just the other day while trying to go up a mountain (to get to our cabin in Lake Lure, NC) and I couldn't. The girl in the Honda CRV 'real time' AWD and the other girl in a stock Jeep 4x4 got up it just fine.

Is there anything I need to be careful of or readjusted to when buying an older 4Runner? I plan on trading mine in and lowering my payments with this new one. I'm looking at a 2000 T4R SR5 4WD 3.4L - 104k miles. And I guess to make completely sure I know what I'm talking about, This is the model that can shift into 4wd and isn't 4wd all the time, right?

Thanks for the help guys!
