2005 4Runner won't start

I was cleaning the car today while my daughter played in the drivers seat pretending to drive. Later that day I went to start the car and it won't start. I can lock/unlock with the keys, when I put the key in the ignition everything even lights up. As soon as I turn the key to start, it clicks and goes dead. It almost seems like some sort of anti theft device got activated. I don't know how to fix it..

Could be the battery.

Check for corrosion on the battery post under the clamp. If the connection is bad it might support enough current to run most things, but the load of the starter cuts voltage to zero. If you have a multi-tester you can get good voltage everywhere, but when someone hits the starter you will only get good voltage on the battery posts.

This sounds like me. My daughter was in the car pretending to drive. Now it won't start. Okay... I did replace the stock radio with aftermarket and disconnect the battery and reconnect a few times. Now it won't start. In addition to my daughter pretending to drive... :drama:

Starting symptoms is a click click click. interior lights and the radio come on. Head lights come on, briefly then everything turns off.

Battery symptoms. It was displaying around 10volts. I hooked it up to a charger. When complete it showed around 12.8 ish. Still no start. radio comes on, interior lights come on, then when I turn on the head lights they are on for about 2 seconds then it all goes black.

Voltage drops. With voltmeter on the battery for a while you can see the voltage drop. Is this the indication of the battery not holding a charge and bad from being below 12volts a few too many times. Not the first time this battery has drained.

definitely a battery. when it dies the first time, that's a sign something is wrong. how old is it? you should replace it.

Dead battery. This exact thing happened to me on Thursday last week. Doors open working on the car but didn't have the key in for about 1.5 hours. Went to start the car everything fine but would only click the starter and not turn over. I charged the battery up quickly with a 40A charger I've got and started no problems, but I figured at this point I've gotten good use out of my original 8+ year old battery and replaced it.

It actually not that old. A few years. But it's one those 7 or 9 year batteries. But the first time I leave the hatch open over night. I'm taking it back to the store to buy a replacement minus whatever the warranty gives me.

Rather than waiting around for a day with a battery charger, just go jump start it. At least you know that the battery caused the problem, and then check your voltage for an alternator failure. At that point you can debug and charge a battery without the stress of doubting your whole truck.

What about this....

My engine turns over, lights turn on, radio on... But no dash lights and egine doesn't start.
2015, new battery....

HELP

Batteries are funny things. I had my replaced in 07 shortly after buying the vehicle. Load tested low so they replaced prior to go back to Alaska. Had that one in since and tests fine. Will replace before I go back up.
