2005 - Air leveling problem Need H E L P

I have a 2005 V8 Limited with air leveling and XRes. The other day the rear end pumped up (without pushing the 'up' switch) to the max and would not go down. I tried everything with no success. I then tried jamming on the brakes to cause the rear end to go up and down. That allowed me to lower the rear by pushing the down button. But after driving a while it went back up again.

I looked under the car assuming there might be a stuck level sensing switch but was unable to find it.

Any suggestions and/or help will be greatly appreciated.

I'm guessing you are in the Northern US/Canada. This is a common issue where they salt the roads frequently. The salt messes with the sensors and causes issues similar to what you're explaining. From what I've seen, there is a good bit more info on Toyota 120 Platforms Forum - Powered by vBulletin than here. I know of a couple threads over there that address the issue.

On Thursday night I was driving home with the family from an outing and the truck seemed very "rough" on each and every little bump. I also seemed to notice the front of the truck higher and more level then normal. I looked at my gauges and no "warnings" of any problems.

I get out of the truck in the garage and it appears as though the rear air suspension was lowered all teh way down as low as possible and that I was driving like that the whole way home which is why it was riding so rough. So I start it up and use the rear auto leveling control to raise it up all the way, then lowered it all the way, then set it back to auto-level and it went back to its normal height and I've not had a problem with it lowering like that again since.

After a search found this thread where people had problems with the air-suspension due to salt messing with the sensors - except theirs all pumped up all the way up tp the highest level (instead of lowering all the way like mine).

I assume this is the same salt/sensors issue?

Has anyone else had this happened to them with the air-suspension lowering all the way? Could it be something else/another issue causing this?

The links that ARK_SWAMP_RIDER listed from Toyota 120 Platforms Forum give en excellent discussion of rear air suspension problems.

Add me to the list of T4R owners who have had height control sensors fail due to corrosion from road salt.

My experience was having the rear air suspension jack the back end up all the way (like a hot rod at a drag strip!) and stick there. Luckily for me, this happened while at the dealership for an oil/filter change.

Changing out the sensors was too costly (and made no sense if their placement still had them susceptible to future corrosion from road salt).

Have since had the electrics of the air suspension system "re-wired" to allow them to function.

Ridger - if your air suspension system still works with the height control switches, then I imagine it was only some sort of glitch. If your air suspension sticks either all the way up or all the way down and cannot be controlled by the switches, then my guess is that you have bigger issues (sensor failure, compressor failure, etc).
