2005 fuel door

I just did the mod on the rear diff/axle vent. I moved it up to the gas cap and through the rubber boot around the gas filler tube where the gas cap screws on. My question, after looking at this location, how water proof is the door for this area? Is there going to be a problem with water from washing the truck or a heavy rain? I may move it under the boot just in case. Thanks for your response.

I put mine under the boot with a cheap little, no check-valve, fuel filter on the end of the hose. I had the same thought about washing. I usually open the gas-door when I wash it. :cheers:

I'm going to make a quick pitch for a filter vs OE vent:
1) The OE vent is a one-way check valve. If you hit the deep water and the axle cools there will (in theory) be suction. If the axle's submerged, with suction, that can't be good.
2) The check valve prevents the axle from venting. I can envision several scenarios where the axle would run under suction until warm. So far 4th gen axle seals seem to be much better than the 3rd gen seals but why test it? Let it breathe!

Ya know what......makes sense to me and I don't need a warm axle housing sucking water in through the seals. I think I'll look for a fuel filter like you mentioned. Again thanks for the advice.
