2005 headlight bulb ?

Last night the passenger side headlight burned out so I went to replace it today. When removing the bulb I noticed the previous owner had used 9005 bulbs (high beam). I was under the assumption that a 9005 bulb wouldn't plug into the low beam plug / socket, but it was definitely there. Now I know why I have loved the light output compared with my other vehicles. The correct light replacement (from autozone) in the 9006 low beam. You can definitely tell the bulb was forced in the socket and its tight. My question is....is it unsafe to go back with the same bulb? The lumen output is 1700 compared to 1000 with the normal low beam. The higher output isn't blinding to other drivers based on the beam angle its just gives a more "full" output. Could this bulb 65watt vs 55watt generate more heat? I do have small cracks in the headlight covers. I wonder if this is normal due to age / sunlight or due to the fact that the bulbs were generating more heat and caused the cracks?

Typically the recommendation is to use the bulb the lamp was designed for.

My personal recommendation would be to use the correct bulb (9006), if looking for increased output you can put a high performance halogen in. I was satisfied with the set I got before upgrading to the 2006 projectors.

If worried about the integrity of the seal around where you put the bulb in, there should be some gel sealants you could put on at the same time.

I wouldn't go over the 55w of stock bulbs unless replacing the stock wiring harness. Besides possible damage to the lamp housing, you could damage other components as well. My guess on the cracking would be the heat and not the age. My '04 housing was yellowed, but no visible cracks.

If worried about the housing, I might be willing to sell you my old '04 housing. Something like $75 + shipping? (Estimated ~$35 shipping)

I too have both housings for cheap as I just did the upgrade to 06-09 projector-style...my runner just past 48k miles so the housings are still looking right...
