2005 Limited V8 - Remote Starter

I am looking for advice on my remote starter. I used a reputable dealer for Directed Electronics. I had a basic Avital 4100 remote starter installed in my '05 Limited V8 4Runner. I have had nothing but problems. My auto headlights will not go out if I use the Avital Remote. My alarm keeps going off when I use the remote start.

The system uses a wired bypass so I did not have to lose a key to get it to work.

The installer is going to look at it again, but I wanted to know if anyone else had the same problems. Can I get it wired to the Toyota Factory remote? Will I still have the unlocked door issue?

Should I have gone higher end than a Avital? I got the same system put in my wife's 2004 Honda Accord and she has not had any problems.

Ok so the 4100 is only remote start...

Do you have an aftermarket alarm? Or is the factory alarm going off when you remote start the vehicle?

If you have an aftermarket alarm, there are 2 possible things he did wrong. First off, the 4100 has an ignition output wire that should connect to your alarm. The alarm should no longer be directly connected to the ignition harness. Basically the remote start will supply the alarm with ignition so that the alarm doesn't think the car is being cranked while armed.

2nd of all and probably what has happened is he needs to turn REMOTE START REPORT ON in the alarm features. It should be setting 3-5, but if I remember correctly you can only get to this feature with a bitwriter. Also at this point you can only activate your remote start using channel 3, which is done by pushing the lock and unlock buttons at the same time.

What do you mean your auto headlights will not go out? Are they just on constant once you remote start the vehicle or are they flashing? This is a program feature built into the alarm... default should be flashing but your installer may have chosen to change the settings. A lot of people would prefer this way especially if you live in an apartment complex and don't want your lights flashing into your neighbors apartments, etc.
