03 04 should fit. The design is slightly changed for 05 I think, but I don't know if means anything.

Having an 05 and contemplating the design of the 05 spoiler (which I like better than the spoiler I had on my 04) it seems to, only by looking at it, be designed as to increase the amount of wind being forced down on to the rear of the vehicle. So, my thoughts going back to when I was last in a physics class, are that it increases the ability of the backend to be held to the road without slippage.
I could be totally wrong, and probably am, so please don't be afraid to correct me. I understand more about medicine than physics.

Forget about better handling
There is NO way the spoiler affects handling, whether for better or worse.. It's for directing air down the rear window to keep the large draft created by the rear of the SUV from sucking dirt and water into the window. It does help, but it's not perfect. There's no way a spoiler on the 4runner aids handling in any way.

I didn't say that it necessarily increased handling. I did say that it forced wind down on the back end to help anchor the backend, much like I would think that spoilers on most sports cars do (true spoilers and cars, not just decorative ones). I still am probably wrong. Just my thoughts.

It's only there for the purpose of deflecting debris (dirt , water). No downforce worth noting. The 4runner is definitely not a sports car, and I'm quite sure the engineers didn't design it with downforce and handling in mind.

It if forced air down, then it would be lifting the back end of the vehicle up (decreasing traction). Pretend its a baloon and think about which way the air goes vs. which way the balloon goes.
Here's a good story about a conversation between a friend of mine and a car salesman:
Friend - Interesting wind on the back of this car. Any idea how much down force it provides?
Salesguy - That wing provides 67 pounds of downforce.
Friend - At what speed?
Salesguy - At any speed.
Friend - So what you are telling me is that this wing weighs 67 pounds.

Spoilers added to sports cars do NOT direct the wind down. They create downforce by the shape of the wing itself (profile like an upside down airplane wing).
Bernoulli principle of flight. The wind flowing over the top travels slower than the wind under the wind, creating negative pressure (downward force).
Although some of the add-on whale tail spoilers I have seen are little more than rediculous eye candy.

I can tell you, the 05 directs strong air flow down the back of the vehicle. Last night we got 6" of snow. I didn't clean the top of the truck. As soon as I started moving, maybe 5 mph, there was a strong flow of snow being directed down the window. At 40 mph it was amazing to watch the force of the snow/wind in the rear view mirror.

Someone on this forum already explained the true reason of the new design, and it was to increase the flow of air to stop the sulfur stink from getting in

Got it buddy! Thanks man. Now, I'm searching for installation instruction, such as: Tricks, Tips.....on how to tap the wire to the brake light with out cutting it. God! I'm gonna stay up all night to read the owner manual.......

damn drilling holes in my car is not my sort of thing.. i better stick with the pros for installation if i were to get one... =P
