2005 Recessed rain guards

Does anybody have any experience with the recessed rain guards for a 2005 (2003-2008) 4Runner? I've used the non-recessed gaurds on other SUV's and always liked them, but I'd like to try the recessed guards as long as it's not at a cost of scrapping my window or causing a leak.

Thanks for any advice!!

C'mon guys, Yes, he is refferring to ventvisors/ventshades/rainguards.....by recessed I assume you mean "in channel" as opposed to the tape on type.
I had the 3m tape on type on my first vehicle ever (back in 98), and they did their job fine indeed.... the in-chanel visors I have now do the same job and look much better IMO.
 
I agree. In channels look OEM which I like. Also they don't get in the way when detailing the window trim or waxing.

lol ...Thanks! That's exactly what I was hoping to hear. You are correct. I guess I could have phrased it better with a reference to "in-channel". The external mount versions with 3M always did a great job, but I'm hoping for a lower profile with the Runner.

Which brand are you using?

I just installed some "in channel" wind deflectors by Weather Tech on the '02 I purchased a few weeks ago.

Very easy install and they look great, as already mentioned.

I much prefer these to the ones that you have to adhere to your paint. I had a set on my '99 Tahoe that I just recently traded in. Very well made and they hold up to all kinds of use/abuse such as auto car washes, etc. The ones I had on the Tahoe looked as good as new when I traded it.

The only potential downside that I see is the price. But, they last and yet again, look great. So that's my justification for going with them.

I'll add that I prefer the lighter tint. It's enough to help with keeping the sun from beaming in too much, but still allows me to see out well.

Hi,
I went through 2 pairs of ventshade inchannel visors on my `o4.

They do the trick as they are supposed to do, BUT, as I said I

through 2 pairs. Seems on the driver side, side being used the

most the plastic tab that sits on the top by the door pillar always

chipped and then broke, just to eventually fall away.

I just recieved think its made by AVS with the 3m tape

attached and the ones made by weathertech are IMO better

quality.

I did notice when closing the door on 4R with the window closed

with the inchannel visor, a kind of snap sound.

I`m still looking for better ones. anyone ??????

What I meant by the snapping sound with the ventshades is...

Everytime I closed my door with the window down, I heard
the tab on the corner rattle. It sounds as if the window itself is loose,but its the ventshade. Over time the tab on the ventshade cracked lil by little.
There is a gap in the top corner by window pillar. The rubber trim doesn`t go all the way cradling the ventshade tab.


I`m not knocking weathertechs stuff, I have their cargo liner,floorliner, also the lampgard for the headlights.
The lampgards kick a$$
