2005 Sport V8 build Thread. Slow But Steady.

Hey fellas, decided I would start up a build thread, a little backstory, picked up this car in May of 2016, wanted a Limited 06-09 at first but I couldn't pass up this 2005, low miles (111k) and the price was just right. Modding is starting slow but I'm just taking my time and researching, so far I love the truck, can't believe i didn't buy one years ago. So far I've done the Scion FRS radio and a few things that ill post pics up and update as they come.

This is the truck when I picked up a couple hours away from me.

Current pic: bumper, sliders and winch not installed yet.

Given that i wanted 06-09 and i got an 05 i decided to do the facelift. Front and rear.

I really liked the satoshi mod and wanted to do it but came across a Jaos grill and picked that up instead, i painted it myself with aerosol cans and went to work.

Here it is after i ordered it.

Took the mesh off and gave it a good primer.

As I'm painting it.

Then to add the clear.

i got a little smudge when it wasn't dry and one of the shop towels got stuck on it but i think i can sand that out once it completely cures and i wetsand it.

Then came down to installing the front headlights and rewiring it, i forgot to take pics of how i set it up except for this one.

I had to cut quite a bit of the bumper in order to get the grill to actually fit, its not the cleanest but i don't mind since i will be ordering a metal bumper soon, need to get my suspension and wheels/tires and put it all on at once. yes sir, Jaos, heres the japanese site http://jaos.co.jp and i think they have a Jaos USA too, yeah i saw it before i wanted to do the satoshi, its a little pricey and they pop on eBay from time to time but i like the way it looks the best.

Just picked these up, they will going in with the suspension which ill be ordering soon.

I got tired of having my fender flares oxidized, i don't like that look one bit, so instead of buying panels that were already painted i decided to tackle it myself.

All 4 corners before:

then i sanded it down with 400, clean up all the cracks and scratches in the paint. I only took a couple pics of this.

I forgot to take pics of the primer but here it is with the 1st and 2nd coat i believe.

Here it is with the clear, the rear has a little tiger striping that i was trying to avoid, but oh well, better than oxidization.

And with the tape taken off

The other side, i only took pictures of it done, i also took off the mudguards and factory side step.

FYI...its probably just as easy to pop off the flares as compared to taping all that up. You can buy the clips on Amazon and they aren't expensive.

Thanks man, I would've, I looked it up but I have a bad habit of breaking those things lol took a little extra time but came out pretty well

That looks awesome, the paint job looks great! Where did you get your paint mixed? My 05 has really bad oxidized flares so I might have to try this out.

thanks man, just went to a local paint and body shop, you give them your paint code and then they put it in an aerosol for you, when grabbing clear make sure you get a 2 part with hardener, its the best kind.

I thought id put a little update here, i returned the eBay arms, i didn't want to go through the trouble of basically upgrading all the parts in it, got my money back and thanks to a forum member here that mentioned Built Right UCAs, i picked them up from The Truck Shop in San Diego (858) 408-0314.

Since i got the truck I've gone back and forth with what suspension I've wanted, what i was planning on doing, reliability and also maintenance, I've gone through the suspension option thread front page a thousand times researching each item and then searching even more, what i decided to get was the OME lift with the 886 front springs and 895 rears. The 886 fronts to accommodate a steel bumper(which is coming soon), winch, air compressor and possibly dual battery setup, the rear is 895 for now, until i get rear bumper, and add more weight in the back and then ill more than likely upgrade to 896.
I also picked up the trim packers for the front and rear to accommodate for the drivers side lean.

next up is settling on what rims i want which I'm still torn over, SCS SR8 or FN Fivestars in 17'' and then the big debate on which tire, it never ends right?

So i got the suspension put in at a buddys shop, they have the things to make it a bit easier so i just had them do it. Got it back and drove it home, you could hear the tires fighting each other and screeching due to the truck being unaligned, luckily made it to an alignment shop this morning and now is driving perfect, will probably have to do the rears soon though. I didn't take many pictures but heres what i have.

here are the alignment numbers, still need to do the rear, will probably get that done this upcoming week.

here are the axle angles, nothing is leaking, just some penetrating spray.

So far the ride is stiff, feels real good, I'm sure it'll feel better once i get all the weight in the front, if anyone has ridden in a lowered car with coilers i would compare it to like 10k spring rate and the rear feels just fine with the 895. Very happy with the results.
